Amongst constant connectivity and a materialism that defines all things by its ability to store, process, and share information, I explore printed matter as a way to resolve how meaning is constructed. The printed page defines an active area, the edges of the page define the end of a logic that defines the information contained. Boundary objects; pages, websites, screens, walls, filter bubbles, all act to define, contain and give concreteness to synapses and can be designed and constructed in intentionally leading ways.
Boundary Objects Companion
A companion zine to the book Boundary Objects exploring the idea of the page as a frame and creating design and spreads that draw attention to it's edges and structure.
A collection of texts responding to films, lectures, books, news articles, etc. I read over the summer of 2015. Text and chosen media focuses on technology and growing political obfuscation, from Hito Steyerl’s Liquidity Inc., articles by Yanis Varoufakis, and comparing Adam Curtis’ Bitter Lake to the anime Psycho-Pass written by Gen Urobuchi, and more.
NeoSelf Issue 1
NeoSelf is a publication divulging into the act of digitization and reproduction as technologies become more affluent in our lives and advanced in their ability to record, document, analyze, understand, and ultimately reproduce us. This is not a seamless process and those who live with these emerging technologies take on behaviours and habits to help the technologies progress. Each issue of NeoSelf stands as a separate documentation of myself, translating my physical being and the informational traces I leave behind, into something archival and readable to new technologies.
A small zine of short texts structured by five terms that relate to my work; connectivity, mediality, radioactivity, materiality, and creativity. Each term is followed by a short text on my definition of them and my interest in each as areas of exploration for my work.
NeoSelf 3 (Alpha)
A booklet that acts as a proof-of-concept for an upcoming issue of the NeoSelf project. It looks at the technological and financial evolution of 3D-printing and currently emerging technologies to anticipate a time when printing genetic code and DNA strands, from purely computer code, will become commonplace. The proposal for Issue 3 is to sequence my whole genome to have available for free for tests and tinkering when such time occurs.
A small zine designed for the two texts Precomposed and Decomposed. The zine is an illustration of how digital platforms become content-agnostic in order to best fit everything under its logic. In this way, digital platforms gloss over content, purposely removing it of context and grounding, to fit it within a their template and ideology.
A collection of my writings from Fall 2014. It served as an index of my thought and interests at the time, forming a personal library of references to inform the development of my thesis work.
The Technical Image
An anthology of texts from various writers and sources focused on exploring the way in which computers and algorithms see us and how we adapt and internalize those ways of seeing and apply it to changing ourselves and our environments to create the optimal conditions to be surveyed, recorded and reproduced.
Created as a companion to The Technical Image, Skin Map consists of 100 pages of close up renders of skin and flesh contorting in inhuman ways.
Visual exploration into form through minimal use of line and implied gestures. How simply can textural vs. subjective depictions be drawn.
